Tier II Reading
Mission
The mission of Tier II Reading is to provide timely support to assist students in reaching their potential as readers.
RTI Program
Response to intervention (RTI) is a three-tiered process of instruction at Achieve Language Academy, St. Paul. Tier 1 is the research based instruction and differentiated learning that happens within the classroom. Tier II provides an opportunity for students who are six months or more below grade level in grades 1-4, to receive lessons outside of the classroom focusing on their area of skill needs. Tier III at Achieve is provided to qualifying students within the Special Education framework.
Data from more than one source is used to determine eligibility for Tier II instruction. Some of the resources include MAP (NWEA) scores, CORE Assessment, Multiple Measures of Reading Assessment, Developmental Reading Assessment. If you have questions or concerns about your child’s reading development please speak to your child’s classroom teacher or the Reading Coordinator, Marlene Sorenson.
Goals
The three major goals for RTI Tier II Small Group Reading are the following:
- Provide small group instruction that meets the need of the individual learner.
- Help students gain skills that will allow them to work at their grade level.
- Show students that they can be successful when they work toward established goals.
To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.
