March 19 Update

I wanted to send another update to keep families informed of the progress we’ve made and answer a few questions that have been sent our way in the past few days. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us at school if you have additional questions or need support.

When Will Students Go Back to School?

This is the biggest question I’ve heard from everyone the past few days. Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact answer, but we have been given every signal from the MN Department of Education that schools will continue to be closed after this two week planning period. Achieve will still be closed for spring break from March 29-April 3rd no matter what, but we have every indication that school will continue to be closed after that date. School leaders are asking the Governor for a decision about school closing as soon as possible and we will communicate that information as soon as we have it. Fortunately, we have been told by the state that we will NOT have to make up these days at the end of the school year because we will be starting distance learning.

Distance Learning

If schools remain closed after the initial closure date of March 27th, we will begin distance learning. This means we will provide educational materials to you at your home. Your child’s teacher will also communicate with them every day. We will send out more details of how you can get school materials next week. If your family needs school supplies, we can provide those as well. As we learn that families do not have internet or devices, we are working on solutions to provide them as best we can, though much of the work can be done without technology. Attendance will still be taken every day and students will still be expected to complete work each day. We understand that every family’s situation is different and some families may need help with student learning. Our teachers will be available every day by email, phone, or text message and are ready to help support your students as they learn away from school. Distance learning will not start at Achieve until April 6th.

Family Survey

We have been doing our best to reach out to families to complete the family survey. This survey is essential as it lets us know what support your family needs. It also tells us how many families do not have internet or devices, which will be essential when we move into distance learning. If you have not completed the survey, please click the link below. It’s also helpful if you talk with other Achieve families and remind them to complete the survey if they haven’t already. We are still trying to get in touch with about 80 families. Families who don’t have internet access can call the school and we will help them complete the survey over the phone.

We are currently providing meals every day at Achieve. Meals are available for any child under the age of 18. Meals are available for pick up between 7:30 and 11:30 AM each day. Meals are also available at the Conway Center from 12 pm-3pm and 4pm-6pm. We are working with our food provider to put together larger food packages so families don’t have to get meals every day. We are also looking at options for food delivery during distance learning.

Again, we do not know for sure how long this closure period will last, but our staff have been preparing to help support your children for as long as it takes. Please let us know if you have questions or need support.
