August 18 Update

Dear Achieve Language Academy Families,

It is a GREAT day to be a part of the Achieve Language Academy Community!

My name is Dr. Curtis Windham, and I have recently assumed the Executive Director role at our school. I am very excited to join this school community and look forward to meeting each of you, safely, over the next several months. For now, I want to focus on the immediate needs and information that must be shared with our ALA community.

Each school district was given a directive by Governor Walz a few months ago, to begin creating three possible scenarios for fall instruction. These scenarios included full in-person learning with suggested safety protocols, hybrid learning, which would split the weeks and times that students would be in the building with mandated safety protocols, and a return to distance learning with updates from how distance learning was enacted in the spring. Each district was asked to create all three scenarios with the intent of being able to shift between these plans depending on the Covid-19 trends and cases in our local communities and schools. With the data that is available, and monitoring our resident district, which is St. Paul Public Schools, our school has made the decision to begin this school year with the DISTANCE LEARNING INSTRUCTION MODEL.

As of the writing of this letter, our plan to begin the year with distance learning will be in effect until at least October 19th, 2020. If a plan to move to another instruction model is necessary, the information will be shared as early as possible so that students and families can begin to prepare for the shift in instructional methods.

To prepare for September 8, 2020, which is the official first day of school for ALA, please use the attached DISTANCE LEARNING PLAN as a guide for preparation. Additionally, all families will need to make plans to secure the necessary technology from the school building prior to September 8. All families may contact the school and make plans to secure their technology devices between August 31-Sept 3.

There will also be virtual open houses scheduled for each classroom along with a school-wide open house scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2020, at 6:00p.m. I will host this virtual open-house and will send out a link as soon as possible. At this virtual open-house, I will take a few minutes to share a few important details to keep in mind regarding the expectations for our students during distance learning as well as what you can expect from our school in support of our students. For those unable to watch the school-wide open house, this meeting will be recorded and made public for viewing at a later date.

I realize that this is not the way any of us expected to begin our school year, nor is this the best instructional method for learning; however, the safety for our students and staff must be of paramount concern. As we continue to monitor the Covid-19 trends, we will make any/all adjustments that are both as safe and responsible as possible, while balancin
