April 29 Update

Dear Achieve Community,

I’d like to thank you for your partnership for these past few weeks of distance learning. We know that there has been a lot of learning going on, both with our staff here at school as well as with students and their families at home. As we move into the next phase of distance learning, I wanted to share some updates with you.

No School May 1st and May 4th

The Governor has ordered that there will be no distance learning for students on May 1st and May 4th. Your students will not need to check in for attendance and teachers will not be available as they will be engaging in professional learning and planning time. I hope you can use the days off to recharge and enjoy some time with your families.

Updates to Distance Learning

We have a few parts of our distance learning plan that we will be changing starting on May 5th:

  • Students need to check in with their teacher every day. Teachers will post a daily question on Seesaw (PreK-1st grade), Google Classroom (2nd-8th grade), or Remind as they have been. They will send out one reminder later in the afternoon to remind families to check in. They will not be calling families to check in each day. Any student who does not check in will be marked absent-unexecused for the day.

  • We will not be sending paper packets home. All student work will be found in Seesaw (PreK-1st grade) and Google Classroom (2nd-8th grade). If you need help accessing these platforms, please contact your child’s teacher.

  • Childcare and meal distribution will continue as normal.

Student Work

Please remind your students that they have assignments they should be completing every day. Students are expected to complete work each day just as if they were in the school building. Please encourage your child to complete their work on a daily basis and be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or need help finding or completing the assignments. Distance Learning is not optional and all students are expected to participate and complete homework assignments regularly. We know that families are facing a variety of challenges right now, but we are really depending on your to help support your child in completing their work while they learn from home.

Staff Appreciation Week

Next week is Teacher Appreciation week. We are so fortunate at Achieve to have an amazing staff of teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff. If you have a few minutes, please consider sending them a note to thank them for their hard work! They will love to hear from you!

School Board Elections

The Achieve Language Academy School Board is looking for new members! We will be having an election this spring and need multiple people to run for board positions. We are looking for two parents of current Achieve students to serve on the board beginning in July 2020 until June 2022. We also need two community members to serve as well. Please consider running for the board and share this information with others who may be interested in serving on our board.

To indicate your interest, please complete this brief survey (click here for survey). Please include a little bit of information about yourself and why you would like to serve on the Achieve Board. Anyone interested in running for the board needs to reply by May 13th.

We know this is a difficult time for families. I appreciate all of your support and partnership as we continue teaching our students. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions.
